For The Caregivers
Being the loved one of someone with an auto-immune neurological disorder gives extreme feelings of helplessness, loneliness, and desperation.
We want nothing more than to see the people we love feeling healthy and happy.
When my husband showered me for months because I couldn't stand or feel my body, it was a time of absolute growth in our marriage. We loved each other wholeheartedly, more than ever before.
At the end of the day, I was the one that couldn't move and I was the one that felt like I was letting him down.
He didn't know how to help anymore than he already did.
He helped me with all of my ailments and the growth I have made is completely intertwined with his love, his support, & his research.
If you're a caregiver of someone with these ailments, this gift of coaching is not just for your loved one. It's ok to want this as well. You have earned it.
A blog seems old school and I'm here for it.
When I was in the hospital I started Googling for people that had been through something like me. I wanted to know that I wasn't crazy for feeling crazy.
I wanted to know if others were going through embarrassing moments. My husband showered me every single day and I lost count how many times nurses just opened the door and saw us in our birthday suits (yes the door was closed & yes it wasn't as funny as it sounds).
Were other people going through this?
Once I was home, I Googled again. Was it normal to feel like my hands were being electrocuted at night time? I would lie down and my body would feel like it was on fire.
Does this happen to others?
There was not one beautiful place to find community in auto-immune neurological disorders.
Find comfort, find support, find tips, find knowledge.
If you have a story to tell, please write me. Let's add it here.
